House of the Dragon Episode 2 Review (Spoilers Ahead)
Trying to invade a small council meeting, Lord Corlys of House Velaryon (Steve Toussant) begs King Viserys (Paddy Considine) to act against the so-called Crabfeeder, a prince of the eastern Free Cities who has sunk ships from Corlys’ fleets. Viserys, however, declines and chooses to work to keep the shaky peace that exists between that region and Westeros.
Later, Corlys and his wife, Princess Rhaenys (Eve Best), approach Viserys with the goal of getting him to marry their daughter, 12-year-old Laena Velaryon (Nova Foueillis-Mosé), in order to bring their houses together. Even though it hasn’t been a year since the passing of Queen Aemma (Sian Brooke), the reluctant king is reminded by Rhaenys, Vizierys’s cousin and the so-called “Queen Who Never Was,” that he must soon remarry in order to carry out his royal obligations.
While all of this is going on, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) has taken a dragon egg from the Red Keep and replaced it with an invitation for the king to attend his wedding to Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno), a woman who worked in a King’s Landing prostitute, at the occupied Dragonstone. At Dragonstone, Daemon is confronted by the Kingsguard and the Hand of the King, Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans). Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) arrives on her dragon just as things between the Kingsguard and Daemon’s army start to get heated. In the end, she diffuses the dispute and returns the stolen egg without any casualties.
Viserys announces his engagement at the following small council meeting, but instead of getting married to Laena, he has his sights set on Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey), Otto’s daughter and Rhaenyra’s best friend.
Corlys, who is horrified by the betrothal news, asks Daemon to take action against the Crabfeeder in the east.
